Frigidaire - Pizza

Overview

Frigidaire introduced a new category of product: a pizza oven capable of reaching true restaurant-level temperatures. Designed for enthusiasts who typically rely on dedicated outdoor units, this product brought high-heat pizza performance into a standard kitchen footprint. I contributed to the launch by developing the visual identity for the product and designing the packaging system for its core components.

Challenge

This product lived between two worlds. It needed to feel like part of the established Frigidaire ecosystem, while also channeling the energy and credibility of a pizza restaurant.

Key tensions included:

  • Balancing a trusted, mass-market appliance brand with a more expressive, food-driven aesthetic
  • Making a technical feature (extreme heat capability) immediately intuitive and desirable
  • Designing a packaging experience that felt delightful and nonstandard
  • Adapting the system to French Canadian requirements, which significantly expanded copy and stressed layout constraints

The risk was ending up in the middle—neither distinctly Frigidaire nor convincingly “pizza.”

Approach

I developed a visual identity that bridged two worlds—rooted in Frigidaire’s clarity and accessibility, but infused with cues from pizzerias and pizza culture.

  • Designed the product logo in collaboration with the Creative Lead, establishing a distinct yet brand-aligned mark
  • Concepted and executed a packaging system inspired by a classic pizza box, turning a functional necessity into a moment of discovery
  • Structured the unboxing experience so that opening the oven revealed the “pizza box,” which housed the core accessories: pizza peel, shield, and stone
  • Carefully managed typography, hierarchy, and layout to accommodate bilingual (English/French Canadian) requirements without compromising visual integrity

The goal was to make the product feel immediately understandable and exciting, before it was ever turned on.

Outcome

The final system elevated the product beyond a feature-driven appliance into a more emotional, experience-led offering. The packaging created a memorable first interaction, reinforcing the idea of restaurant-quality pizza at home.

The identity and unboxing experience helped position the product as something new within the category—familiar enough to trust, but distinct enough to feel like an upgrade.
